Ready to open an account?

Follow our step-by-step process. You can save your progress during the application process and return to it later if you need to.

Ready to get started? You can open your new retirement account online. It takes about 20 minutes to complete the application, and you can save your progress as you go.

You’ll need to tell us things like your name, age and address.

And you’ll need to provide the following items:

  • Bank account details for where you’d like your income payments to go.
  • Superannuation account details from which to transfer your super savings into your new retirement account.
  • Two forms of identification to verify your identity, such as a valid Australian driver’s licence or passport.
  • Tax file number for the purposes of identification when rolling over from an external fund.
  • A digital copy of your bank statement to confirm the bank account that we will pay your income to.

To open a Transition to Retirement Income account, you need a minimum of $25,000, so you’ll need to tell us how much to transfer and which super account(s) it will come from. If you’re transferring money from a super account held with us and plan to keep that account open (such as to receive contributions or pay for insurance), you’ll need to leave a minimum balance of $6,000 in that account.

Equip Super offers seven diversified investment options and four sector-specific options, so you can choose the options that best suit your retirement goals.

You can choose to have your income paid to you on a fortnightly, monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, or annual basis. And you get to nominate how much you want to receive. Note that minimum and maximum amounts apply.

Because you've turned 60, there's generally no tax on your income payments.

One of the main benefits of a Transition to Retirement Income account is that you may be able to reduce your working hours but still maintain your income by drawing the difference from your super.

Or, if even you're not quite ready to reduce your hours, you can simply receive the additional income.

Our transition to retirement strategy outlines these options in more detail.

While you’re still working, you and your employer can keep making contributions to your super account, so you can keep saving for your retirement.
