Providing super advice

Most requests for super advice can be conveniently handled over the phone. However, you’re also welcome to visit us in person in one of our offices, or online via Microsoft Teams.

Based on your request, our financial planners can recommend the most appropriate course of action. For example, it might be relating to investment choices for your Equip Super account, or contribution strategies that will help you to grow your super.

Providing comprehensive advice

For more complex financial advice needs, such as broader contribution strategies or detailed retirement planning, we offer a comprehensive financial advice service.

As part of providing this service, our financial planners can advise on an extensive range of financial products from leading financial institutions – they’re not limited to advising you specifically on Equip Super products or investments.

Our advice process

Frequent asked questions

  • Your first meeting with one of our financial planners is provided at no cost. This is an opportunity for us to assess your situation, understand what you’re  trying to achieve, and determine how we can help. Please note that no financial advice is provided in this initial meeting.
  • During this meeting we’ll explain the cost of any advice we’ll provide you. The exact cost of the advice provided will be determined by the nature and complexity of the advice itself. We’ll ensure that you understand the costs up front – and agree to those costs – before we proceed to the next steps.
  • This discussion generally takes around 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the detail of your discussion.

  • After this initial consultation, providing we have your agreement to the costs before we proceed, we’ll begin work on your recommendations. We’ll gather information on your personal circumstances, your financial position and your goals and objectives. We’ll then determine the financial strategies and products that are appropriate for your circumstances, and develop a series of recommendations.
  • At this stage, there may be a need to meet again to clarify or gather any additional information before we prepare your statement of advice.
  • Our final recommendations will be provided to you in writing as a statement of advice.

  • We’ll meet with you again to go through your statement of advice in detail, explaining our recommendations and answering any questions you have.
  • We’ll outline how we can work with you to implement these recommendations on your behalf.
  • This meeting can either be in person or online via Microsoft Teams.

Once you’re ready to go ahead, your financial plan will be put into action. Where appropriate, your financial planner may work with specialist professionals on your behalf, such as an accountant or solicitor.

Once we implement the recommendations we’ve provided, it can be a good idea to also arrange additional reviews with your financial planner from time to time to help ensure your plan is on track and continuing to deliver what you need for your retirement.

This can form an important part of the overall comprehensive advice process, as your needs and objectives can change over time.

For example, through the review process we could provide further advice on:

  • your changing needs and objectives
  • your financial products and strategies
  • social security issues
  • your income and debt levels
  • your family situation and health
  • the economic environment

Advice fees and costs

The exact cost of advice will depend on the complexity of your financial situation and financial plan. There are various ways to structure fees, usually starting with an initial fee to cover identifying your needs, developing a strategy and implementing the recommendations.

Our financial planners will always explain fees and charges in a clear and transparent way to make sure you understand and approve the fees before you go ahead.

Limited super advice is usually provided at no extra cost

Limited super advice typically involves simple questions relating to your super account or your investments with Equip Super. As a result, limited super advice is usually provided at no extra cost – it’s all part of your membership with Equip Super.

In those few cases where a fee may apply, we’ll let you know in advance, and there’s no obligation for you to proceed if you choose not to go ahead at this stage.

The cost of comprehensive financial advice

Comprehensive advice is a premium advice offering, with detailed and often complex advice personalised to you and your situation. As such, the costs associated with comprehensive advice can vary widely from person to person, depending on the complexity of your situation and the advice you require.

Your initial consultation with us is provided at no cost. During this consultation, we’ll make a preliminary assessment of your needs and determine the extent of the advice that will be appropriate for your situation. We’ll then clearly explain the fees and costs that will apply should you decide to go ahead with receiving financial advice, as well as the payment methods you can use.

Note that you’re under no obligation to go ahead at this stage, so it’s up to you as to whether you’d like to proceed with receiving advice.
