Supporting mentoring for a better future
We marked an important milestone in our support of the Inspiring Young People program in Gippsland in May 2015, as we celebrated 10 years of our association with Baw Baw Latrobe Local Learning and Employment Network (BBLLLEN).
Inspiring Young People was founded as a community project by Michelle Weatherall and Kerrie Timmins and has evolved into one of the most successful youth programs in the Gippsland region.
At its launch, the program began as Inspiring Young Women, which is when we began our association. The program’s objective was to introduce marginalised young women to volunteer community mentors to help them set and achieve goals for the future.
Its success quickly resulted in a similar program for males, Straightalk, run in association with The Smith Family. A short time later, a program for Koori youth was added to what had now become the overall program brand we created with BBLLLEN, Inspiring Young People.
It is rewarding to know that our support has enabled a program that has delivered positive inspiration and brighter futures for more than 3,000 people, who have been mentored by over 800 volunteers over a decade.
