Cash option

Cash is one of Equipsuper's Sector Specific options, which means all the money is invested in a single asset class - cash. You should proceed cautiously when investing in any Sector Specific option and we strongly recommend diversifying your investments to reduce risk and volatility over the long term. To diversify your investments, you can invest in multiple Sector Specific options, or combine Sector Specific options with any of the Equipsuper Diversified options. We provide an outline of factors influencing the risk associated with investing in Overseas Shares on this page.

Strategy

Invest in money market securities such as bank term deposits and bank bills.

Comment on performance

This is not just money in the bank but also money invested for a short time in money market securities such as bank term deposits and bank bills. Over the long term, cash will deliver lower returns than growth assets. However, there are times when the regular income payments that cash provides make this type of investment attractive.

Comment on risk

The risk associated with cash investments (money in the bank and term deposits) is generally minimal, although the investment upside is also minimal. Cash is a safe haven in times of economic uncertainty and occasionally you may wish to preserve capital by allocating some of your super to cash.
